Since 20 January 2018 Turkish armed forces, together with the radical Islamist FSA (Free Syrian Army), have been attacking the Syrian province of Afrin and its roughly 800,000 inhabitants.
The attacks are causing civilian deaths; entire residential areas in the province of Afrin and in the town centre are being destroyed, and historical and cultural heritage — such as the Kawa statue — is being obliterated.
