Der Angriff der türkischen Streitkräfte gemeinsam mit der radikal-islamistisch-salafistischen FSA (Freie Syrische Armee) auf Afrin dauert seit dem 20. Januar 2018 verstärkt an. Zivile Opfer, Zerstörung von Wohngebieten und die irreparable Vernichtung geschichtlich-kultureller Erbgüter sind die bitteren Ergebnisse.
Bevor eine rechtliche Einordnung der Ereignisse in Afrin folgt, fordern wir
- die Beendigung der Angriffe auf Afrin durch den türkischen Staat und die anderen bewaffneten Gruppen
- die Untersuchung der Verbrechen gegen die zivile Bevölkerung vor Ort durch unabhängige, international anerkannte Einrichtungen wie das Rote Kreuz sowie die Sicherung von Beweismitteln
- die zügige Ergreifung von Maßnahmen durch die Vereinten Nationen, die NATO und den Europarat, um diese Angriffe zu beenden und die Zivilbevölkerung in der Region zu schützen

The attack on Afrin by Turkish armed forces together with the radical Islamist-Salafist FSA (Free Syrian Army) has been intensifying since 20 January 2018. Civilian casualties, the destruction of residential areas and the irreparable obliteration of historical and cultural heritage are the bitter results.
Before a legal assessment of the events in Afrin follows, we demand
- an end to the attacks on Afrin by the Turkish state and the other armed groups
- investigation of the crimes against the civilian population on the ground by independent, internationally recognised bodies such as the Red Cross, and the preservation of evidence
- swift measures by the United Nations, NATO and the Council of Europe to end these attacks and protect the civilian population in the region
